Call for Entries

The Design Excellence Awards are held annually to honor those who have achieved excellence in commercial and residential Interior Design. Recognizing artisan spirit, talent, hard work, and dedication, the Design Excellence Awards are a unique opportunity to highlight your work and acknowledge the work of your peers. 

• Eligible projects must have been completed in collaboration with a designer, architect, landscape architect, artist, or industry partner based in southern Arizona.  
• Eligible projects can be located outside of Arizona. 
• Eligible projects must have been built and completed between May 2020 and April 2024. 
• All available categories are listed under the "Categories" tab above.

ASID MEMBERS: All members of the AZ South Chapter are eligible for a member entry rate. You must have your ASID member number and be a current member in good standing to be eligible for a member entry. 

NON-MEMBERS: May include designers, architects, landscape architects, artists, or industry partners from within southern Arizona.

Fees

NEW SPECIAL FEE for ASID Members Entering for the 1st time: $150 for the 1st entry. Email administrator@azs.asid.org for the promo code. 

Early Registration: May 15th - June 15th

Members: $175/entry

Non-Members: $250/entry

Late Registration: June 16th - July 15th

Members: $200/entry

Non-Members: $275/entry

Rules

• It is the entrant's responsibility to ensure that the project being considered, meets the rules, regulations, category, and eligibility requirements as stated in this document.
• The ASID design awards committee reserve the right to disqualify any entrant for incomplete or incorrect submissions.
• Entry fees are non-refundable in the event an entry is disqualified, or entry is not uploaded within the given time frame.
• Judging criteria is as follows:
  • Presentation (30 pts): Overall impression and quality of photography
  • Overall Originality (20 pts) Creativity of design.
  • Design Solution (20 pts) Project explanation and designer intent are supported through project narrative, goals and other supporting documents. Locations where the professional photos were taken are clearly noted on the floor plan.
  • Space Planning (15 pts) Overall effectiveness of layout and degree of functionality. Scale and proportion seem appropriate for space.
  • Materials, Colors, Textures & Patterns (15 pts) Relationships complement one another. Overall effectiveness of color scheme.
• Judging will be performed by volunteer members from other ASID Chapters and shall remain anonymous.
• All documents, before & after photographs and drawings submitted become the property of ASID Arizona South.
• ASID Arizona South, Tucson Lifestyle Home & Garden and Biz Tucson reserve the right to crop, edit, resize and use submitted entries at their discretion unless permission has been specifically restricted.
• ASID Arizona South, Tucson Lifestyle Home & Garden and Biz Tucson reserve the right of full discretion to utilize winner’s photographs in any publication, electronic format or other media unless permission has been specifically restricted.
• ASID Arizona South cannot guarantee the inclusion of any or all winners’ photography or Designer’s information in subsequent publications where editorial decision-making is beyond ASID Arizona South’s control.
• Designers, design team members, clients (if disclosed) and project information will be credited at the discretion of ASID Arizona South, Tucson Lifestyle Home & Garden and Biz Tucson.
• Entries that have previously won an award through ASID AZ South cannot be submitted.
• Entries that have previously been entered but have not won an award through ASID AZ South can be entered again
• Name of designer, logo or business on any submitted materials in any form will disqualify an entry (unless in the case of a commercial entry where the business name or logo appears)
• A single project can only be entered once unless it’s Product Design and another category. For instance, you CANNOT enter a Kitchen category and then also show photos of that same kitchen in a Residential Space category. You CAN however enter a Kitchen in Large Kitchens and then enter the custom light fixture you designed for that kitchen in Product Design.
• Designers can only enter twice in a single category.
• Names and contact information of all designers who enter the awards (regardless of winning status) will appear in the publication.
• Winners will be announced at the 2024 ASID Arizona South Design Excellence Awards on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at the Tucson Museum of Art

Requirements 

1. Professional Photography (Minimum of 1, Maximum of 10)

• • All Photography files MUST be 300 dpi JPG files for reproduction. Each photo/document cannot be larger than 10MB in size.
  • Add the image number in the caption section on the photo to correspond with the floorplan annotations.

2. Project Drawings (Jpg or pdf format. Minimum of 1, Maximum of 3) 

*We encourage you to only include drawings for items that are relevant to your photographs.

         • b. Indicate the location where professional photos were taken (i.e. Photo #1 with an annotation 1 arrow)
      2. One or two additional drawings (as built/before plan, lighting plan, elevation, detail plan, rendering, etc)

• • Please only include before photos of areas that are relevant to your professional photographs.
  • Before photos are required for these categories:
    • B01: Small Bathroom (overall floor space under 100 sq ft)
    • B02: Large Bathroom (overall floor space 100 sq ft or more)
    • K01: Small Kitchen (80 sq ft or less of countertop)
    • K02: Large Kitchen (80 sq ft or more of countertop) 
    • R02: Remodeled Residence under 2,500 sq ft
    • R03: Remodeled Residence over 2,500 sq ft
    • R04: Singular Space
    • C02: Remodeled Commercial Space
    • C03: Singular Commercial Space
    • RC01: Universal Design
    • RC02: Sustainable Design
